No-exam life insurance
What people qualify for fast-track underwriting, how the process works, and your options if you don't.
Many carriers now offer fast-track underwriting: for applicants in certain age and amount ranges, they make decisions based on your application, medication records, driving history and other sources rather than ordering a medical exam. Approvals can come through within a day. Your quotes will indicate whether an exam is required, may be required, or is not needed for each product.
What it changes
Accelerated underwriting still includes thorough verification of your answers. If you misrepresent information, a policy can be challenged within the first two years. If the carrier finds questions in its investigation, you may be asked for an exam or labs; at that point, you can choose to proceed or stop.
Who tends to qualify
Most applicants below age 60 seeking amounts within the carrier's fast-track limit, with clean medical history and no recent tobacco use, may qualify. If you have recent bloodwork from a doctor's visit, some carriers will use that instead of ordering an exam.
Should an exam be necessary, it's normally a brief 20- to 30-minute appointment with a paramedic at your home or workplace in the Ceres region, at no charge. For many healthy applicants, passing an exam can actually improve your rate class, so it's not necessarily unfavorable.
